Mayor’s Column: Early Voting

Mayor Michael Mignogna reviews voting information for the upcoming election on Nov. 2, 2021.

The right to vote is an important individual liberty and the foundation of free government.

This year’s General Election will be on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Voters will be casting ballots to elect the New Jersey Governor, one member of the State Senate, two members of the General Assembly, three County Commissioners (formerly Freeholders), the Sheriff, and two Voorhees Township Committee members. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Voorhees Township.

Voters in New Jersey have three options this year by which to vote. They can cast their ballot in person at the polls on Election Day, Vote by Mail (VBM) or take advantage of the Early Voting Program.

If you choose the Vote by Mail Program, applications can be obtained by visiting the Voorhees Township Clerk’s Office, the County Store at the Voorhees Town Center, or online at camdencounty.com/vbm. Applications for Vote by Mail ballots for the General Election must be received by the Camden County Clerk no later than Oct. 26. Completed ballots must be received by the Board of Elections before the close of the polls on General Election Day or have a postmarked date no later than Nov. 2. Completed ballots for Voorhees residents can also be dropped off at the ballot drop box located outside of the front entrance to Town Hall.

New this year is the ability to vote early in the General Election. In Voorhees, early voting will be available at our Lions Lake Community Center on Dutchtown Road. Early voting begins on Saturday, Oct. 23 and continues through Sunday, Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Voorhees voters also have the option of voting at any of the other Early Voting Centers in Camden County. A full list of Early Voting Centers can be found at camdencounty.com/service/voting-and-elections/early-voting-center/.

If you are registered to Vote by Mail, you will not be able to vote at the Early Voting Centers unless you opted out of VBM before the Aug. 31 deadline.
