Voorhees Animal Orphanage hosts 25th annual Woofstock Festival

Sept. 25 event returns in person after going online last year

Special to The Sun

The Voorhees Animal Orphanage’s largest fundraiser and 25th annual festival Woofstock return to the township on Sept. 25 at the Voorhees Town Center.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests will encounter food trucks, dog demonstrations and music by the South Philly String Band and Red Sky. Entry is $2 per person and proceeds help pay for medical care, pet food and supplies for the shelter’s animals.

After COVID forced a virtual Woofstock festival last year, the orphanage’s Marketing Director Jennifer Bailey is excited for its return.

“We are thrilled to hold Woofstock live and in person this year,” she said. “Part of the joy of Woofstock is seeing so many pets enjoying the day with their loving families.

Each year, Woofstock helps raise awareness about VAO’s mission and helps us continue to provide medical care and feed and house cats and dogs until we can place them into their forever homes.”

This year’s event will feature gift basket raffles and other traditions such as the alumni parade, a favorite of Bailey’s because it’s an opportunity for her and other volunteers to see animals adopted through the years with their families.

“It’s a really big, great day,” she said. “It’s not just pet-focused. There will be face painting and balloons for the kids, fall crafters, stuff for animal lovers, stuff for music lovers — it’s a really great day.”

In addition to the non-pet-related activities, there will also be pet product vendors, local veterinary information tables and an area where people can adopt animals. Owners are welcome to bring their pets, but they must remain on a non-retractable leash throughout the event.
