Animal Welfare Association (AWA) will host a Pets for Vets tent event at its shelter in Voorhees from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. Proudly supported by the Camden County Commissioners, Pets for Vets aims to share the joy of the human-animal bond between veterans and shelter pets.
“Owning a pet can provide veterans with invaluable companionship,” says AWA Executive Director Maya Richmond. “Not only do pets help us stay active and socialize, they also make us feel protected and loved.”
Pets for Vets is a small thank you to Camden County veterans who have selflessly served our country and will provide the men and women in uniform with companions from the shelter that will supply unconditional love to the most valued members of our society.
The program is open to all active military, reservists or veterans who reside in Camden County. Residents and animals that meet the program’s criteria will have their adoption fees waived. Participants must present proof of residency and a valid military ID and dogs must be over two years old and/or over 40 pounds. Veterans without identification can visit the Office of Veteran Affairs located on Collier Drive in the Lakeland Complex in Gloucester Township.
AWA is located at 509 Centennial Blvd, Voorhees, N.J. 08043. For more information about Pets for Vets, please visit https://www.awanj.org/pets-for-vets-adoptions/ or call the shelter at (856) 424-2288.
