Disgruntled employee threatens store manager with loaded firearm

The male from Gloucester Township was detained and firearm recovered.

Release according to the Gloucester Township Police Department.

On May 1, 2021, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Gloucester Township Police received several 9-1-1 calls from inside Mavis Discount Tire 545 Berlin Cross Keys Road, Sicklerville, for a report of a male armed with a firearm. Gloucester Township Police with the assistance of Winslow Township Police Department immediately responded. Winslow Township Police was on location and had the male, later identified as Dean Hardwick from Gloucester Township, detained and firearm recovered.

Investigation revealed Hardwick was upset with management over a recent reprimand for his performance. A verbal altercation ensued between Hardwick and his manager. During the altercation, Hardwick threatened the manager and advised he would be returning to the store with something for him.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, Hardwick returned brandishing a loaded small .380 caliber firearm from his sweatshirt pocket while advancing towards the main lobby occupied with several patrons. While Hardwick was advancing towards the main lobby, the store manager tackled Hardwick and was able to disarm him wrestling the firearm from his hand. The firearm was secured by another employee and turned over to police. There were no injuries to any employees, police, or patrons thanks to the swift actions of the store manager.

Arrest: Dean O. Hardwick 34 YOA Unit block of Spar Dr. Gloucester Township NJ 08081

Hardwick was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Terroristic Threats, and Simple Assault. He was remanded to Camden County Correctional Facility in accordance with New Jersey Bail Reform.
