One of Cinnaminson’s smallest parks, nestled in the western portion of the township, recently received $75,000 worth of playground upgrades thanks to generous financing from Burlington County.

Extension Park, a 1.76-acre plot of land that is mostly open space save for a basketball court, community garden and the playground, sits between Cuthbert Road to the north and Lejune Road to the south, just west of Fairfax Drive.

On Oct. 1, members from township governance, including Mayor Ryan Horner and Deputy Mayor Albert Segrest, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the project’s completion, which lasted five months from conception to execution.

Improvements to the playground area include a new composite structure with a variety of play elements, a climber, swings and new engineered wood fiber surfacing.

The playground overhaul ended up costing a hair under $74,000, according to Cinnaminson Township Administrator Eric Schubiger, and was covered entirely by a Burlington County Park Development Grant secured by township council.

“The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee recommended playground upgrades for Extension Park over a year ago. Township committee member and Parks and Recreation Liaison Stephanie Kravil recommended the proposed project to her colleagues on the township committee and it received full support,” said Schubiger.

Beginning in May, township officials collaborated with Marturano Recreation on a new playground design for the park that was reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Committee. The necessary equipment was ordered in July and the project was completed shortly after the ribbon cutting.

“This successful project is a great example of utilizing partnerships and teamwork to provide good government for our community,” Kravil noted.  “The volunteers on our Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee have expressed great interest in revitalizing Extension Park, and we matched the grant funding with an identified need within our community.

“Our professional staff worked with Marturano Recreation in finalizing a great design which matched our goals and funding,” she added. “The Township Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and our professional staff are committed to providing quality parks and recreation facilities for our residents, and I look forward to working on additional successful projects in the future.”

The playground is compliant with guidelines laid out in the Americans With Disabilities Act, as it now includes accessible play elements and an accessible playground safety surface.
