Local man spits at officers, claims he has COVID-19

The Cherry Hill PD and Camden County officers sought treatment following the incident.

The following is a release from the Cherry Hill Police Department:

On Wednesday, July 22 at approximately 2:19 a.m., Cherry Hill police officers assisted the Camden County Sheriff’s Office with an individual in their custody. Upon entering the Cherry Hill Police Department prisoner processing area, the male became combative. During the course of the struggle, he spit in the officers’ faces and claimed he was infected with COVID-19.

The officers were treated at a local hospital. The male was also transported to a local hospital for treatment at which time he again became combative and assaulted two members of the hospital staff and a sheriff’s officer.

Lance Phillips Jr, 29 years old of Pennsauken, was arrested and faces the following charges: three counts of throwing bodily fluid at law enforcement; two counts of criminal mischief; three counts of simple assault and a COVID-19 Executive Order violation. Phillips Jr. was remanded to the Camden County Jail.
