Voorhees Police Department receives BookSmiles collection bin

A customized K-9 themed bin was delivered to the Voorhees Police Department earlier this week, which will collect donations for the nonprofit BookSmiles

The Voorhees Township Police Department received a BookSmiles collection bin Monday, Dec. 16.

On Friday, Nov. 15, Voorhees Arts Council and its artists teamed up with BookSmiles to paint six children’s book collection bins to be placed across South Jersey. The bins were recently distributed to local schools, places of worship and local government buildings.

Earlier this month, a customized K-9 themed bin was delivered to the Voorhees Police Department, which was decorated by co-chair Voorhees Arts Council Kim Clay. Other bins have been placed across various other South Jersey municipalities.

This partnership and project brought many facets of the community together and accentuated the importance of every child having aces to books, a library, as well as the importance of art in a community. BookSmiles and Voorhees Arts Council intend to do this again in the spring.
