Mayor’s Message: Voorhees Saves Lives Program

Voorhees Township will continue with the initiative and the Voorhees Saves Lives Program will again be operational beginning Wednesday, Nov. 27

In 2015, Voorhees Township entered into a partnership with Evesham Township to join their Evesham Saves Lives Program in an effort to reduce the incidence of drunk driving. The Saves Lives Program offered free Uber rides home to any Voorhees resident or Evesham resident from any restaurant/bar in either Voorhees or Evesham.

The Township Committee unanimously supported merging with the Evesham program since it not only saves lives, but also saves our police department’s time and money by reducing the number of DWIs to be processed.

While Evesham Township has chosen to no longer participate in this program, Voorhees Township will continue with the initiative and the Voorhees Saves Lives Program will again be operational beginning Wednesday, Nov. 27. The program provides free rides home to Voorhees residents from any restaurant or bar in Voorhees and the ChopHouse in Gibbsboro.

Residents simply open the Uber app at one of the participating restaurants/bars and will see a “safe ride” option at the bottom of the screen.

The free service will not be provided from one establishment to another but only from the establishment to home. The program is available every day from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

No tax dollars are used for this program. It is fully funded through contributions from local foundations, donors and businesses.

If the program saves one life, it is well worth it!
