Palmyra High School Post Prom Committee welcomes back annual purse drive

The PHS Post Prom Committee is an organization that has dedicated themselves to providing a safe, drug and alcohol free environment for students to enjoy with their peers.

The Palmyra High School Post Prom Committee this month will again hold its annual purse donation drive for borough students. The organization has dedicated itself for nearly 25 years to providing a safe, drug- and alcohol-free environment for students to enjoy with their peers.

The group consists of parents who organize the Palmyra post-prom event for attendees of the junior and senior prom. While its mission has remained the same over the years, the committee has developed new ways to raise funds for the event.

“We are able to provide students with a chaperoned event that offers fun activities and great prizes in an environment free from drugs and alcohol,” said committee Co-Chair Jacqui Nece.

“The entire event is funded by this committee with no cost to the students.”

“The purse donation drive started many years ago and we are just continuing the tradition,” Nece added. “The gently used purses are donated to Post Prom, then we set up a table at the Palmyra High School Craft Show in December and the purses are sold. All proceeds benefit PHS Post Prom Committee, which helps fund the event.”

The sale will be held Dec. 7.

While fundraisers vary from year to year, the purse donation drive remains. The committee has also held ‘dine & donate’ nights at local restaurants and several successful designer bag bingo events.

According to Co-Chair Karen Adams, most of the group’s support comes in the form of donations both monetary and prizes. Businesses and parents within the Palmyra community have been receptive to the organization.

“Our local businesses and organizations have been extremely supportive,” said Adams. “Many will make monetary donations which go toward the venue and entertainment vendors for the night. Some businesses put together gift baskets full of prizes that are put on display and the kids receive free tickets to enter for a chance to win the baskets.”

“The parents of our students are also very supportive,” Adams continued. “They make monetary donations, donate items for gift baskets and volunteer to help at the various fundraisers and even at the event itself.”

To donate to the purse drive or to get involved, contact Nece at (856) 873-6499 or email her at [email protected]. Donors can also contact Adams at (609) 440-0019.

“We take pleasure in watching the students enjoy themselves at the event, especially knowing that they are in a safe environment,” Nece noted.

“It is our hope that they realize they can have a wonderful evening without the use of drugs and alcohol.”
