Airshow coming to Medford Sept. 7-8

Look up and gaze at the maneuvers pilots will be doing for the Flying W Airport's fourth annual airshow on Sept. 7 and 8.

Spectators will be amazed by the twists, turns and other aerobatic maneuvers as the fourth annual airshow makes its return to town.

On Sept. 7 and 8, starting at 11 a.m., the Flying W Airport and Resort (60 Fostertown Road, Medford) is hosting an airshow for all ages. Tickets at $15 for adults, $10 for children. Children ages 5 and under are free. Tickets and more information can be found by visiting www.FlyingWAirport.com. In the event of inclement weather, a rescheduled date will be published on the airport’s website.

Planes enthusiasts and casual spotters will be able to gaze upward at military and small sport aircraft as they do twists, turns and other various tricks.

The Flying W Airport, according to its website, was created by Bill Whitesell in the 1960s “to provide air transportation services” for Alaska Pipe Line workers, and to create a getaway for families and travelers. Pilots also train at the local airport.

Attendees will also be given a chance to ride in an aircraft for $80 per person.

They would first fly around in the air to get familiar with a plane, and they’ll be able to take control of the plane, which is fun to see and some people have never flown before so it’s cool for them to see the scenery,” said Caul Kopczynski, air show coordinator at the Delaware Valley Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.

Line Guy at the airport Daniel Jordan said they’re expecting roughly 500 people to come out for the local event, which he added differs from the famous Atlantic City Air Show because of the number of local ties to it.

In addition to the aviation excitement occurring that day, the airshow will have a pool, food trucks, kids activities, a tiki bar, a volleyball court and more.

No outside alcohol is allowed in the event.
