Sun Editorial: This Father’s Day, let’s tell the world how great Dad is

Send in your Fathers Day story and then we’ll share your story with everybody else.

He was there when you took your first step, rode your first bike and caught your first baseball. He was the one you called when you aced that calculus exam. He walked you down the aisle on your wedding day. He became an amazing grandfather to your kids.

He’s your one and only dad, and this Fathers Day – it’s on Sunday – The Sun wants to celebrate with your stories.

We’re calling for this public display of affection, respect, etc. because dads often can be difficult when it comes to gift-giving. Mothers Day? No problem. Hand over some flowers or a card, or take Mom out to dinner, and you’re good.

Dad, however, probably doesn’t need another tie. And, if you ask him what he wants, he’ll probably mumble something about “nothing, really” and then go tinker with some stuff in the garage or grab a seat in front of the TV and complain about the Phillies starting pitching.

So, this year, let’s give him something you can’t buy at any store: public recognition.

What makes your dad the best? From “he grills the best burgers” to “he helped me buy my first house” and everything in between, we want to know. Tell us why your life is better because of your dad.

Dads aren’t always determined by biology, either. Maybe you have another influence in your life you would like to celebrate on Fathers Day. Maybe your uncle helped raise you. Maybe you’ve watched your best friend become the world’s best dad to his own kids. Maybe you’d like to say thanks to that teacher who made all the difference. Whomever it may be, share your story with The Sun.

Let’s make this Fathers Day something to remember by giving Dad something he can cut out and stick to the refrigerator. Or, since it is 2019, something you can share on your and his social media sites.

Send in your Fathers Day story (keep it to about 300 words, please) and then we’ll share your story with everybody else – both in print and on our websites and social media platforms.
