85 Burlington Township employees recently attended an active shooter awareness workshop. The topics covered included the history of active shooter events, an overview of Run-Hide-Fight and what to do when police arrive.
Additionally, employees received training in Stop the Bleed. May is national Stop the Bleed month. The training prepared attendees to intervene in life-threatening bleeding before EMS or other trained rescuers arrived. Although this course was taught in conjunction with the active shooter workshop, the skills are applicable to everyday life including industrial accidents, motor vehicle crashes, kitchen mishaps or any other incidents that can result in severe bleeding. Those who attended received hands-on training in tourniquet application, wound packing and other bleeding control methods.
Burlington Township Officer Jarrod Broadway conducted the training with the assistance of several Paramedics from Virtua EMS.
