Tabernacle Historical Society will host their annual Strawberry Social on Saturday, June 8, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tabernacle Community Center (the old Emergency Squad building) on Hawkins Road. The Strawberry Social features fresh Tabernacle strawberries served with generous helpings of home-made cake and covered with whipped topping. Hot dogs, coffee, ice tea and water will also be available for those who want a little lunch before enjoying dessert. All food items are offered at nominal prices, and take-outs are available. The Society will also be selling commemorative plates, throws and tree ornaments.
The Tabernacle Historical Society earmarks the proceeds from this fundraiser for a scholarship it offers to a graduating Seneca senior from our town. The Society maintains and preserves three historic structures in the township: The Knight-Pepper House, the Friendship School and the Tabernacle Cemetery buildings and arch. In addition, they preserve artifacts, documents and photos which highlight the history of the community. There are projects that are being planned for maintenance and improvements at the buildings as well as enlarging the educational role of the society. The Society is in need of more volunteers to help make these projects a reality.
All are welcome to the Strawberry Social and to the monthly meetings of the Historical Society held on the second Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center. For more information, call (609) 268-1255.
