Dr. Claire J. Call (nee McElhone), a longtime resident of Moorestown, passed away on May 14 at the age of 98. Dr. McElhone Call was a podiatrist who had her private practice in the home where she grew up in Gloucester City. She was a member of the American Society of Podiatric Medicine and the Catholic Daughters of America.
She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Call Sr. and mother of Joseph Call Jr., Mary (Stephen) Emerson, Ann (Kent) MacDougall, Claire (Keith) Walters and the late Robert Aloysius Call. She was also the grandmother of Luke Emerson, Matthew Emerson, Daniel MacDougall, Claire MacDougall, Kelsey Sweeney, Carly Walters, Katie Call and Christine Call.
In 2005, she was honored by the New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society for “60 years of dedicated and outstanding service to her patients, community and profession.” She truly loved helping others and would make house calls for those who could not make it to her office.
Claire and her husband were avid supporters of their children’s and grandchildren’s athletics and activities and were always on the sidelines cheering them on. She was a long-time supporter of the Moorestown Swim Club and Sunnybrook Swim Club where her family spent many great summers. In addition, Claire was a diehard Philadelphia sports fan, especially her Eagles and Phillies. Claire will most be remembered for her faith, positive attitude, kindness and compassion for others.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 am Tuesday, May 21 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church located at 42 W. Main St.in Moorestown. A viewing will take place on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home located at 78 E. Main St. in Moorestown. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hainesport.
