Letter to the Editor: Evesham’s new elected officials bring welcome change to council meetings

This letter to the editor was submitted to The Sun from Marlton resident Christopher Nigro:

It is encouraging to see the changes brought to Evesham Township by Mayor Jaclyn Veasy, Deputy Mayor Heather Cooper and Councilwoman Patricia Hansen.

Council meetings have changed in both substance and atmosphere — more residents are willing to come and speak at meetings, and the council actually has public debates. The new mayor and council members’ attitude and professionalism at council meetings is a welcome change.

Just on Tuesday, they put forward an ordinance aimed at delivering better services to veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities while also improving communication between all township departments and residents and businesses. Separately, they also formed a committee aimed at bringing back a farmer’s market that will help local farmers and businesses.

Last month, they passed a resolution to directly hire qualified, local workers for Public Works projects — this initiative will put people to work while saving taxpayer dollars and improving our township.

They have also increased transparency by encouraging township department heads to give detailed reports at each council meeting and requested that the township manager figure out how to live stream council meetings as soon as possible.

I am excited to see our new mayor and council members continue working on their agenda, and appreciate them modeling good, positive leadership.
