Mayor’s Message: Senior citizen holiday luncheon, Shop with a Cop, and employee recognition ceremony

The weekly message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli

Senior Citizen Center holiday luncheon

On Dec. 8, the Washington Township Senior Citizen Center members hosted a holiday luncheon for their members. Council President and Liaison to the Senior Citizen Board, Joe Perry was in attendance to celebrate with the members of the center. There was music, food, dancing, and plenty of conversation to go around. I would like to thank the members of the Washington Township Senior Citizen Advisory Board, as well as Council President Perry for coordinating this luncheon for all of the senior center members. I wish all of our Washington Township senior citizens happy holidays with their friends and families.

Shop with a Cop

On Dec. 12, I was pleased to participate in the Washington Township Police Department’s Shop with a Cop event. A group of young children were selected through the schools to shop for holiday gifts for their families thanks to the Washington Township Police Department establishing the Shop with a Cop program. The shopping event was a great way for children to become more familiar with law enforcement in Washington Township, while also purchasing gifts for their families that they may not have otherwise been able to provide. Council President Perry and Councilwoman Angela Donato joined in helping the children purchase gifts for their families. The children were able to partake in some holiday festivities due to the generous donations from businesses and residents alike. I would like to thank Chief Gurcsik and the rest of the police department for their participation and their efforts in organizing this generous event, as well as the generous individuals and businesses that donated for this cause.

Employee recognition ceremony

My administration was pleased to hold an Employee Awards and Recognition ceremony for all municipal employees as well as our police employees for the second year in a row. I feel extremely grateful to have such hard working and dedicated employees who put their all into assisting the residents of Washington Township. We were able to honor each department for their hard work, as each department contributes to the success of the township as a whole.
