A tree lighting will culminate the opening of the festival at 6:30 p.m. this evening.
Winterfest will officially open at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill tonight. A grand opening ceremony for ice rink will take place at 6:30 p.m. this evening.
“We are opening Winterfest with a tree lighting ceremony, amusement rides, carolers, give-a-ways and more,” said Freeholder Jeff Nash, liaison to the Camden County Parks Department. “This year, we’ve added more family activities with arcade games in the heated tent and outdoor games for you to enjoy when you are off the ice.”
The 60 foot by 120-foot ice rink has a new location this year. at the corner of North Park Drive and Cuthbert Boulevard across from the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The surrounding park has been transformed into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights in the trees, and vendors selling soft pretzels, hot chocolate and other treats.
Winterfest will be open Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m. Children 4 years of age and younger will be admitted onto the ice for free. Kids 5 to 12 will be admitted for $4 and adult admission is $6. Veterans and seniors will receive a discounted admission of $4. There is a $4 skate rental fee for all ages.
“Every year we talk about new ways to attract residents into utilizing our brilliant open spaces throughout the park system. The rink and family activities provide that additional incentive for thousands of people to become unique visitors for passive and active recreation and for regular park users and opportunity to this green space in a whole new light,” Nash said. “That said, bring the entire family to Cooper River Park and make it your winter tradition.”
