Jewish Federation receives tax credit for Phase II of Weinberg Commons construction

The Weinberg Commons are slated to be located at 1721 Springdale Road in Cherry Hill.

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey was recently awarded a 9 percent tax credit for Phase II of the Weinberg Commons, as well as $2.37 million from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York — also for construction of Weinberg Commons at 1721 Springdale Road in Cherry Hill.

In early July of this year, the Jewish Federation broke ground, taking a huge step forward in our new affordable housing development. This project, in partnership with Pennrose Development, LLC, has been a long-time dream for many in our community.

This new housing will bring independent, multi-generational living to both older adults and adults with special needs, while providing supportive services, work and volunteer opportunities, and community activities for both residents and non-residents to live a full, independent, and integrated life. When complete, the Weinberg Commons will offer 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with a new community building for additional onsite wraparound services and programming.

Phase one began this September, with the construction of the community building and the first residential building.

“There is a need for more affordable housing for older adults and adults with special needs in our community. While we currently have three subsidized housing options for older adults, each have wait lists more than two years long. This is the Jewish Federation’s first foray into housing for those with special needs, and we couldn’t be more excited. It’s been a long-time dream for our community and we are thrilled to see it finally coming to fruition,” said Jewish Federation CEO Jennifer Dubrow Weiss.
