Bethel AME Church invites the community to celebrate the Christmas holidays with a Jazz Vespers service “Make a Joyful Noise!” The special service will feature the music of Lynette Sheard and her ensemble and will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. It will be held at the church, located at 512 N. Church Street in Moorestown.
Jazz Vespers is a new take on an old service and is typically held in the late afternoon or early evening. The service includes prayers, poetry, reflection, candle-lighting and music, specifically Jazz music. This is the fourth time that Bethel is offering such a service. The pieces offered will all be appropriate for the Christmas season.
Lynette Sheard, a gifted and versatile vocalist with a five octave range is the featured performer for this service. She is an actor, producer and director. Her performances have been acknowledged in numerous publications including The New York Times, The Star Ledger, The Record and the Chronicle.
Sheard, has received countless awards and recognition for her musical service work with children, the elderly and veterans. She is a founding member of the Guiding Stars — a medical missions group of professional performers who volunteer to entertain veterans and children. In August of 2017, she released her single, Last Night’s Champagne, which is available on Apple Music.
Tickets are only $20 and all funds go to support the activities of the 2019 Women’s Day Committee at Bethel. Tickets are available at the door. Additional information is available at www.bamec.org.
