According to police, at 2 a.m. on an early October morning, officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of a stabbing.

Officers made contact with a male who was bleeding heavily from a stab wound to his chest and lacerations to his hands.

However, according to police, the victim and witness on scene were both uncooperative.

Police say crime scene procedures were then instituted, as the residence had blood splatters in multiple places.

While processing the scene, police say Willard noticed the dishwasher had just completed a cycle and was set to “Sanitize” mode.

During a closer inspection, Willard located a large butcher knife with coagulated blood trapped in the plastic basket underneath.

According to police, Willard’s attention to detail and investigative skills led to a crucial piece of evidence being seized, which will aid in a successful prosecution of an arrested female.

Police say Willard has been a member of the department for 21 years. Police say Willard is being commended for his investigative skills and commitment to making the township a safer place.
