The chapter leadership conference was held at Kean University.
Seneca’s DECA students attended the chapter leadership conference at Kean University. At the conference, students participated in leadership activities and workshops, listened to guest speakers, and developed plans for leading the Seneca DECA chapter. DECA is an organization that prepares students as emerging leaders and entrepreneurs, helping them create a foundation for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
“This is an event that gives our students opportunities to engage with and learn from leaders in the business world,” noted adviser Grace McCloskey. “And then they get to bring this knowledge back and apply it to our projects. It’s a valuable learning opportunity for our students.”
Students were also presented with the state charity they will be supporting this year while at the conference: Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation (ARVF), which was nominated by Seneca’s DECA chapter. According to the ARVF website, the organization, “provides strength and support by creating one-of-a kind programs that include Alicia’s Art Cart, Teen Lounges, Teen Kits, Proms, social events and activities exclusively so hospitalized teens can maintain a sense of normalcy and connection with their family, friends, and lifestyle.” Additional information about the organization can be found at http://www.victoriousfoundation.org/
“During the conference they talked a lot about the charity; I love their message, goals, and what they stand for. We are already making it a real priority to support them this year and really spread their message. I’m inspired and excited to fundraise for them,” explained sophomore Corrine Kent. “Overall, it was just a great way to jump start our DECA year!”
