Former Philadephia Eagle and Congressman Jon Runyan puts aside party lines and supports Ravitz and Nocito during election
To the Editor:
As a former Republican Congressman for the 3rd Congressional District, I learned firsthand about the gridlock in Washington, D.C. When I decided not to seek re-election, I was quoted as saying: “But my frustrations with the ways of Washington have been well-documented. Of course, the things that have bothered me most — the petty ambitions and the misplaced priorities — have frustrated many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle. Believe it or not, there are members of Congress who actually want to govern and get stuff done. Unfortunately, there are others whose agendas and strategies serve to advance their own interests and expand their donor base.”
Jason Ravitz has been my friend for many years and operates the successful Supermarket Franchise, ShopRite. We have worked closely together in many charitable endeavors. I have also met his running mate, Michelle Nocito; she is truly an amazing person. When I endorsed Jason and Michelle three years ago, I knew they were the type of leaders that would always place the interests of Voorhees residents over petty partisan politics. They are true fiscal conservatives who have held the line on taxes, with a zero local purpose increase two out of the three years they have served. They have achieved so much the past three years, but there is more to do.
I know it is rare for a Republican to endorse Democrat candidates, especially in today’s environment, but I never cared about party labels while in Congress and I still don’t today. I do know that Jason and Michelle are the type of bi-partisan “can do” individuals who have chosen to run for Voorhees Township Committee for all the right reasons.
To all my Voorhees friends, regardless of political affiliation, please support Michelle Nocito and Jason Ravitz who will do the best job on Township Committee.
Most importantly, please exercise your right to vote on Election Day, Nov. 6.
Sincerely,
Jon Runyan,
Former Congressman,
3rdcongressional District
