Rebels remain undefeated following Gateway, Medford games

It was a banner week for the Mantua Rebellion Under-9 girls’ soccer team as it recorded a pair of shutouts in the span of four days.

The Rebellion first downed the Gateway Blue Lightning, 6–0, and followed that up with a hard-fought 4–0 victory against the Medford Pride in South Jersey Girls Soccer League action.

In the win over Gateway, the Rebellion received goals from Sarah Foster, Alexa Goldstein, Chelsea Volfson, Avelin Wells, Lily Cini and Francesca LaGuarina. Goalies Reily Rosauer and Addison Staszewski combined to make four saves in net.

Foster paced the Rebellion with three goals against Medford. Emma Burdey also added a goal, and split duty in the net with Rosauer to post the shutout. Mya Cammarata played superb defense in each game, while Lilly MacNamara, Lily Clerval and Madalyn Worst had strong performances.

“The girls are really playing like a team,” said coach John Cini, whose squad improved to 7–0. “Every player, from the defense to the offense, is looking to pass and find an open teammate and it’s so much fun to watch. We know they are going to continue to get better and finish the home stretch of the season with a bang.”
