Letter to the Editor: ‘Jaclyn Veasy for mayor and Patricia Hansen and Heather Cooper for town council’

This letter to the editor was submitted to The Sun from Marlton resident Christie DeCarolis.

This letter to the editor was submitted to The Sun from Marlton resident Christie DeCarolis:

As a resident of Evesham, I’m excited to see committed women on the ballot for Evesham mayor and town council: Jaclyn Veasy for mayor and Patricia Hansen and Heather Cooper for town council.

They have a wide range of experiences that will bring new perspectives and ideas to town council. It’s important that the residents of Evesham are aware of their backgrounds and qualifications to serve.

Jaclyn Veasy grew up in Evesham. She is heavily involved in organizing and serving as a committee member for Relay for Life and organizing and volunteering at the St. Joan of Arc festival each year, in addition to coordinating programs such as the Children’s Liturgy Program at her church.

Patricia Hansen has lived in Evesham since 1989 and worked at Amtrak for more than 40 years, where she served as a liaison between management and more than 6,000 union employees. While at Amtrak, Patricia served as president of her union for five terms and fought for same-sex couples’ rights at Amtrak before the Supreme Court recognized marriage equality.

Heather Cooper is a resource and development director for a local nonprofit, where she advocates for people who experience disabilities. This requires her to have a deep knowledge of the state and local legislative process. In addition, she recently completed an MPA from Rutgers University and serves on the board of her HOA and church.

Jaclyn, Heather, and Patricia have wide-ranging experiences managing events, organizations and people. These experiences will serve them well on town council, and I’m eager to vote for them on Nov. 6.
