spoMedford Milers to host second annual 5K
The Medford Milers, a local running club started in 1999, is hosting its second annual 5K race/1 mile “Fun Run” on Saturday, Oct. 20 in Medford. The race event starts and finishes at Freedom Park in Medford (near the Medford Public Safety Building on Union St.)
Participants will enjoy a flat, fast course. The 5K course runs through the streets of historic Medford and will have water stops and professionally timed mile markers. There will be post-race refreshments, high quality tech shirts and music provided by local DJ, Marsdale Productions.
Proceeds raised from the run/walk will benefit the Medford Vincentown Rotary Halloween Parade which takes place in downtown Medford the following weekend.
Burlington County “Out of the Darkness Walk” set for Oct. 20
The Burlington County event returns for a third year at Laurel Acres Park in Mt. Laurel on Oct. 20, with a fundraising goal of $25,000.
Those looking to donate, register or learn more about the upcoming Burlington County Out of the Darkness Walk can visit www.afsp.org/BurlingtonCo.
The event will last from 9 a.m. to noon. Online registration closes at noon on Friday, Oct. 19, but participants can still register the day of the walk before the start time.

Shawnee student sang her way to the big screen at the Phillies game on Sept. 2
Shawnee High School senior Molly Flynn sang her way to the big screen at the Philadelphia Phillies vs. Chicago Cubs game on Sept. 2.
“It was kind of nerve-wracking, but at the same time I really loved doing it. I was thinking ‘how many people get to do this in their lifetime?’” Flynn said. “I was looking around and was so grateful just to be there and have that opportunity.”
Performing in front of a crowd of that capacity only solidified her dreams of pursuing music in college. Flynn plans to study classical voice and music education at either Eastman School of Music or New England Conservatory next fall.
