Mantua Rebellion remains undefeated after Pitman game
Several of the girls scored goals to lift the Rebels to victory.
The Mantua Rebellion remain undefeated with a 7–1 victory over the Pitman Mountain Cats on Sept. 29 in a South Jersey Girls Soccer League U-9 game.
Sarah Foster knocked in a loose ball early in the first half to put the Rebellion on the board. Alexa Goldstein made it 2–0 with a blast into the back of the net off an assist from Chelsea Volfson.
The Rebellion used a string of quick passes to score their third goal of the game. To start the sequence, Avelin Wells took a corner kick and passed it to Madalyn Worst, who one-touched it over to Lily Cini, who hammered the ball into the goal.
Volfson scored two goals and had an assist in the second half to help the Rebellion improve their record to 4–0. Volfson scored her first goal by dribbling around three defenders before tucking the ball into the corner of the net. Her second goal came on a shot from 12 yards out to beat the goalie.
Francesca LaGuarina set up Wells for a goal after halftime, and Mya Cammarata capped the scoring late in the game.
Goalies Emma Burdey and Addison Staszewski shared the win, while Lilly McNamara and Lily Clerval each turned in a great game for the Rebellion, who will participate in the annual Deptford Soccer Tournament.
“It was another outstanding performance by the entire team,” coach John Cini said. “The girls continue to get better and better each week. It’s really a lot of fun to watch them develop and bond as a team.”
