The expansion is meant to help students seeking careers in growing engineering technology fields.
In collaboration with leading employers, officials with Rowan University and Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) say the schools have enhanced their partnership to create more opportunities for students seeking careers in growing engineering technology fields.
Rowan University’s Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering opened a new academic department in Engineering Technology to offer degree-completion program opportunities in various engineering technologies. This coincides with a new associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology that RCBC launched this fall.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the growth of this program as it relates to our workforce demands,” said Bob Regensburger, project specialist principal, Economic Development Programs, with Lockheed Martin, Moorestown. “Students will now have multiple pathways to obtain meaningful credentials, enter the workforce and complete their bachelor’s degrees. This collaboration between Rowan University and RCBC is good for students and the region’s workforce and reflects their commitment to strengthening the state and region’s economy.”
According to officials, engineering technologists work in product and process design and development in areas such as transportation, power, climate control, machine design, manufacturing, materials, land management and automation.
“Rowan has made a commitment to push the envelope, develop novel pathways and create educational opportunities for our state and region that strengthen our economy,” Rowan University President Ali Houshmand said. “This program illustrates what is possible when partners come to the table to do the hard work of reforming our education system. Students now can gain meaningful credentials in high-demand industries at a cost that is way below average.”
Through the current partnership between RCBC and Rowan University, students now have the opportunity to pursue both an associate degree and complete a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Rowan University’s Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering at RCBC’s Mt. Laurel campus.
“We share a goal of working together with Rowan University and employers to create high-quality affordable pathways that provide students access to successful careers in growing, in-demand fields,” RCBC President Michael Cioce said. “The creation of Rowan University’s Engineering Technology Department in conjunction with our new Mechanical Engineering Technology degree provides our students access to both employment and one of the top engineering schools in the nation.”
In addition to mechanical engineering technology, officials say RCBC also offers an associate degree program in electrical engineering technology. Rowan University and RCBC expect to develop additional technologist programs that meet industry demands.
