The weekly message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli
Atlantic City Electric sponsors senior center luncheon
On Sept. 13, Atlantic City Electric sponsored a luncheon for our Washington Township Senior Center. I would like to recognize Mr. Bert Lopez, public affairs manager, for not only the sponsorship of this luncheon, but for attending and supplying some “helpful hints” on cost savings on your electric bill. I, along with my Business Administrator Jason Gonter, Councilwoman Dana Pasqualone, Police Chief Pat Gurcsik, and several patrolmen were on hand to serve this delicious lunch and have some great conversations with our residents. We were also on hand for some of the fun weekly activities and drawings. This was a great event and I know the seniors enjoyed not only the luncheon, but also the helpful advice. If you are interested in joining the Senior Center please contact Alicia in my office [email protected] for more information.
“No Knock” ordinance instated
At the Sept. 12 council meeting, the Washington Township Council members voted in favor of the “no knock” ordinance. This particular ordinance protects residents from unwanted solicitation at their homes. In the next thirty days, residents will be able to apply for and pick-up a “no solicitation” laminated card to place on their front door or window from our clerk’s office. Council Vice President Sean Longfellow was the original advocate for this “no knock” ordinance as he, as well as our administration, have heard many concerned residents who felt that this solicitation was becoming a problem. There was a need to adopt this ordinance. The process is simple in nature, the business applies for a Peddler’s License in the clerk’s office and receives the license as well as the “no knock” registry with the addresses of those residents that have opted out of the solicitation. If the business owner knocks on the door of a resident who is on the list of “no knock” registry the police department will need to be called and the business owner could be fined up to $1,000. Door knocking is prohibited after dusk.
