Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey ask supporters withhold donations of candy

Due to increased shipping costs, the group is asking supporters to avoid donating any leftover Halloween candy.

Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey is asking supporters to avoid donating any leftover Halloween candy to the group this year.

While the group has been able to use the candy in past years to send care packages to the men and women serving in the U.S Armed Services in the Middle East, this year OYRSJ cannot afford the shipping charges.

Earlier this year, OYRSJ announced that due to changes in the way the U.S. Postal Services delivers military mail, OYRSJ’s shipping costs to send packages overseas had effectively doubled.

According to OYRSJ, candy can be “very heavy and thus very expensive to ship,” so the group will not be accepting candy this Halloween season.

However, OYRSJ does suggest that there are other “worthy local charities in the area” that might accept the candy, and the group asks supporters to instead send any leftover candy to other such groups.

“Thank you for your understanding and continuous support of Operation Yellow Ribbon and our brave women and men serving our great country,” OYRSJ officials said in an email to supporters.
