Letters from the library

See what activities the Pinelands Branch Library has to offer forĀ fall.

So many heat waves this summer! My garden is looking very unkempt despite how much I watered. The begonias have bolted and the impatiens is perpetually wilted. I canā€™t wait forĀ fall.

For our adults and senior guests donā€™t forget to join us on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. for our inaugural ā€œComing Aliveā€ adult discussion to participate in a variety of lively discussions centered on living a balanced life. The series identifies Eight Disciplines of Wellness: emotional, social, financial, spiritual, occupational, physical, intellectual and environmental. They provide a structure for learning how we can improve our daily lives. The first session, ā€œEmotional Balance,ā€ led by William J. Dorman, CMC-Emeritus and Founder of the Coming Alive Adult Discussion Series, will include a brief overview of ā€œComing Aliveā€ and a group discussion on how we achieve emotional balance. It is not necessary to attend all sessions to participate in thisĀ program.

We have a number of exciting authors visiting the library in the near future. First on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m., the DeFeo Brothers will visit, who wrote and illustrated ā€œThe Adventures of Nobo Bink: Welcome to Earth.ā€ When his father gets a new job on planet Earth, young Nobo must leave his home planet behind. The story follows a nervous Nobo on a planetary journey across the universe as he experiences the wonders of space on his way to new experiences and a new home on Earth. An original coloring activity is included. (This is also the day of our ā€œBatman Make-N-Takeā€ activity)

Donā€™t forget on Monday Sept. 17 at 6 p.m., author and New Jersey native Laurie Dempsey will be at the library to discuss her new novel, ā€œMemoirs of my Lifeā€ which tells the story of Legend, a Morgan horse ā€œā€¦who has a way of looking at things different from most horses and is not always eager to please but eager to do well in what he does.ā€ The author will have copies on her book on hand for sale, and will be signingĀ them.

We are pleased to welcome 2018 Pulitzer Prize nominee David Steinberg, who was nominated by the International Writers and Artists Association for his 2014 work ā€œMy Enemy in the Mirror.ā€ This poem was translated into Arabic and published in the magazine ā€œ28ā€ in Gaza, earning the distinction of being both the first Jewish American poet to be afforded that honor. Mr. Steinberg will discuss his work and how seeing within ourselves, ā€œlooking at the enemy in the mirrorā€ can not only help bridge conflict between bitter enemies raised upon generations of hatred, but differences we have in our everyday lives and interactions.

Wine Glass Painting will return on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30Ā p.m.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and watch out for the schoolĀ bus!
