Piccola discusses the advertisements leading up to November’s elections.
You can learn a lot about candidates by paying attention to who supports them. With two months until November elections, attack ads that spout lies and misinformation are as commonplace as they are deplorable.
These attack ads are paid for by the deep pockets of Political Action Committees (PACs). One PAC responsible for the ugliest ads is Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF). The CLF’s methods go beyond dirty tactics. The CLF has been exposed as using illegally obtained information to smear a Democratic candidate in Virginia. Ignoring a cease-and-desist order, the CLF released a candidate’s federal security clearance application to news outlets.
This same PAC is behind the attack ads playing on repeat in advance of the congressional race in NJ CD3. Benefiting from the lies in the CLF attack ads is Republican Congressman Tom MacArthur. MacArthur’s quiet acceptance of the benefits of these attack campaigns speaks volumes.
PAC money represents the worst of what is wrong in our election process. This is one reason I support Andy Kim for Congress NJ CD3. Andy has accepted zero corporate PAC dollars, instead relying on his positive message to gain the support of NJ CD3 voters.
