Washington Township teacher hosting barbecue fundraiser at high school football team’s opening game

Washington Township High School health/physical education teacher Matt Groark has a passion for his family and his students. He also has a passion for barbecue. Groark is putting that love to work for a good cause with the start of a business, Groark Boys BBQ, which is intended to host events and fundraisers to help give back to his community.

Groark Boys BBQ will host its first event on Friday, Sept. 7, offering pulled pork platters to attendees at the Washington Township High School football team’s season-opening game against Kingsway at Tom Brown Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., and Groark will be set up to serve by 6 p.m. For a $10 cash donation, purchasers will receive a pulled pork sandwich, chips and a water. Groark is donating all proceeds from the event to three charities close to his heart: the Caitlin Bollendorf Foundation for Education and Epilepsy Research; Operation Smile; and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Since announcing his intentions to hold this event — and promoting on his social media outlets — Groark has been able to acquire several donations that will keeps costs very low and proceeds high for the charities, including: Premier Meat Company in Canada donated all the pork, Caribeque Rubs and Seasonings donated all the rub, Cambro Manufacturing donated all hot holding equipment, Squatchboxx Coolers donated the coolers, The Bollendorf family donated the plasticware and containers and several barbecue experts also will be coming from as far as Georgia, Florida and California to assist with the event.

The only costs remaining are for buns, chips and water. And Groark is hoping to secure those via donation before the event.
