What a summer this has been! Record breaking rainfall plus high heat equals oppressing humidity. Cooler autumn weather will be a welcome relief.

Speaking of weather — we will be presenting a special documentary on Friday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. on that subject. “Decoding the Weather Machine,” a two-hour film, addresses how climate change is one of the defining challenges of our time. Join scientists that are working around the globe to help us better understand the weather and what we can do to be more conscious, resilient and even thrive in the face of this enormous change.

We invite adults and seniors to join us on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. for our first “Coming Alive” Adult Discussion to participate in a variety of lively discussions centered on living a balanced life. The series identifies Eight Disciplines of Wellness: Emotional, Social, Financial, Spiritual, Occupational, Physical, Intellectual and Environmental that provide a structure for learning how we can improve our daily lives. The first session, “Emotional Balance,” led by William J. Dorman, CMC-Emeritus and Founder of the Coming Alive Adult Discussion Series, will include a brief overview of “Coming Alive” and a group discussion on how we achieve emotional balance. It is not necessary to attend all sessions to participate in this program.

Come by the Pinelands Library on Monday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. to meet author Laurie Dempsey. Dempsey is a New Jersey native, having been born in Atlantic City, and graduated from Stockton University. Her new novel, “Memoirs of my Life”, tells the story of Legend, a Morgan horse “…who has a way of looking at things different from most horses and is not always eager to please but eager to do well in what he does.” The author will have copies on her book on hand for sale, and will be signing them.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and get ready for school!
