Favilla discusses concerns with Shawnee High School’s daily start time.
This coming school year, my oldest daughter will be a senior at Shawnee High School. It’s a great school, but it has a daily start time of 7:20 a.m., which means she must be awake before 6 a.m. to catch a 6:30 a.m. bus.
Every year by October, my daughter is truly exhausted each school week as she juggles her athletics and homework.
I don’t understand why the Lenape School District can’t consider starting school later. Even if it were a 7:40 a.m. start time, those extra 20 minutes would be helpful to her and the rest of our family.
There are many states that start high school closer to 8 a.m., and the main reason why is that it just makes sense. Teenagers need their rest.
