Performances set for Aug. 1 through 4
The Voorhees Theatre Company (VTC) will present Shrek the Musical, Jr. Aug. 1-4, at Voorhees Middle School. The performances are the culmination of the theater company’s summer camp program, involving 140 children from communities throughout South Jersey.
The all-youth production will put on display the skills campers learned during their six-week program. VTC runs the summer camp for grades three through eighth annually, teaching young people acting techniques and many of the technical aspects of theater production, including set construction, lighting and other behind-the-scenes disciplines.
Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical, Jr., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and Broadway musical. Shrek leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek Jr. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
Two casts will present Shrek The Musical, Jr. at 10 a.m., Aug. 1; 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Aug. 2; 7:30 p.m., Aug. 3; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Aug. 4. Reserved tickets for all performances are $10 and are available at www.voorheestheatre.org.
