Betty M. Hye (Deschu) passed away on May 12 at age 94 at the Wiley Retirement Community in Marlton.
She was born and raised in New Brunswick and lived her adult life in Bound Brook, Flemington and Marlton.
She loved New Jersey, from the urban life of the college town, to the hills of the upper Delaware River, to her especially beloved South Jersey Shore and Pinelands. She had a deep curiosity throughout her life and passions for gardening, reading, opera, swimming, the outdoors and nature.
She was particularly interested in the botany of the Pinelands and was an active member of the Garden Club of Marlton, where she chaired the Conservation Committee for several years.
She was also an active member of the Ocean Nature and Conservation Society in Ocean County for many years.
Betty attended Trenton State College and taught remedial reading to children and substitute taught in Hunterdon County grammar schools.
She was married to Casper Deschu, pre-deceased.
She is survived by her son Garrett (New Jersey), daughters Claudia (Florida) and Nancy (Alaska), and many relatives of the Hye, Hormby, Vroom and Deschu families.
A private celebration of life is planned in autumn at the New Jersey shore — her favorite season, her favorite place.
Donations in her name can be made to the Garden Club of Marlton to continue their good work in education and conservation.
