Press release from Gloucester County Board of Freeholders
The County of Gloucester will be continuing with their 2018 Highway Overlay Program this coming week with the resurfacing project on Fish Pond Road (CR 634) in Washington Township.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “We have been hard at work to complete our 2018 Highway Overlay project and we are right on schedule. We will be continuing to alert residents as to when these roadway projects will be taking place so everyone is up to date and aware of what is going on in their communities.”
Freeholder Heather Simmons, liaison to the department of public works said, that both projects will consist of milling two inches of the existing asphalt and overlaying the roadway with two inches of a new asphalt surface course. Wheel ruts and other pavement distortions will be removed by the pavement overlay. Existing inlet grates not meeting NJDOT standards will be replaced with new bicycle safety grates. The inlet openings not meeting NJ Storm Water Management Guidelines will be replaced or retrofitted. The concrete sidewalk ramps that did not meet current ADA standards have been replaced. Traffic striping will also be replaced.
Simmons stated, “The summertime is the best time to complete these resurfacing projects and we plan each year in advance to maintain portions of the 410 miles of roadway of the county. We take pride in making sure that we maintain a safe and secure County public roadway system.”
The project on Fish Pond Road will be 1.59 miles from Pitman-Downer Road (CR 658) to Hurffville Cross Keys Road (CR 654) and will begin construction on or about Monday, July 23, weather permitting. The work will be done between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. and should take three days.
During these construction days, the roadways may be detoured but will allow traffic to flow in one direction throughout the length of the project. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained when possible and residents shall have access to their driveways at all times.
