Obituary: Francis Patrick McGann Jr.

Graveside interment will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 14 in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Moorestown.

Francis Patrick McGann Jr., age 77, of Libertyville, Ill. passed away on Thursday, June 22. Francis was a devoted Conventual Franciscan friar dedicated to promoting the witness and life of St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Prior to taking his solemn vows, Francis shared 37 years of marriage with Lois McGann who he had known since grade school.

Born and raised in Moorestown, Francis was the son of the late Francis P. McGann Sr. and Margaret “Mog” Galloway.

A member of the Moorestown High School Class of 1959, Francis was best known for owning Towne Line Liquor and Lounge from 1971 to 1993 when he converted the store into an Irish pub called McGann’s Food and Spirits.

Additionally, Francis entered the Deaconate Program and in 1983 became an ordained deacon, serving at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Parish in Moorestown until he decided to pursue his lifelong vocational calling by beginning his Postulancy.

Francis will be remembered for his devotion to God, love of family and for the way he “seemlessly” worked in “spirits” all way around.

A loving and lively jolly soul, Franny was everyone’s go to guy, who took pride in being Irish.

Francis is survived by his best friend and former wife, Lois (Ravikio) McGann, their three daughters: Kathleen McGann (Peter Wienewski); Kelly Hébert (Marc); Karen McGann-Smith (David) and their only son, Kyle Francis (Margaret ‘Peggy’ O’Leary). He had his beloved five grandchildren: Logan Smith, Harrison Hébert, Adian McGann, Connor McGann and Rowan McGann; his sister Margaret “Peggy” Aeillio and five nieces and nephews. Francis was predeceased by his parents and sister, Patricia ‘Patsy’ McGann Conway and granddaughter, Olivia K. Hebert.

A funeral mass of Christian Burial for Friar Francis McGann, OFM Conv. will be held at The National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe at Marytown in Libertyville, Ill. on Saturday, June 30 at noon. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Graveside interment will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 14 in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Moorestown.

Guests are invited to join family and friends for the and a luncheon P.J. Whelihan’s Pub in Maple Shade beginning at 11 a.m.
