According to police, Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds collected by the court system will be used to fund these efforts.
The following information is on file with the Mt. Laurel Township Police Department:
Mt. Laurel Township Chief of Police Stephen Riedener and the Mt. Laurel Township Police Department have announced their intention to use the full effects of roadside checkpoints in the enforcement of intoxicated and impaired drivers.
MLPD describes Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) as “a very serious violation of State law” and something that is taken “very seriously” by the entire MLPD.
Police say officers from the department will utilize appropriate traffic control devices to facilitate roadside checks in accordance with departmental policy and law.
Motorists traveling on the selected roadway(s) will be asked to slow down and even stop during the course of a checkpoint. Police will make every effort to limit traffic delays. Motorists are asked to be patient and cooperate with such proactive measures in a “police-public partnership” on making roadways safer for everyone. Police say the goal is to prevent motorists from driving while intoxicated.
According to police, Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds (DDEF) collected by the court system will be used to fund these DWI enforcement efforts.
Police say the aforementioned checkpoints will / may be operational during the period of May 22 through June 10.
However, the exact locations, dates and times will not be revealed, but potential areas of operation will be major roadways and/or thoroughfares that pass through the township such as Route 73, Route 38, S. Church Street, Fellowship Road and/or Hainesport Road.
Police say all checkpoints will be highly visible at the time of execution.
According to police, concerned citizens are also always encouraged to report erratic and/or DWI driving to local authorities.
