LRHSD Storm Robotics Team takes home award at FIRST Championship
The Lenape Regional High School District’s Storm Robotics Team took home the Gracious Professionalism Award at the FIRST Robotics Championship, held recently in Detroit. The nearly 40-member team, comprised of students in ninth to twelfth grade from both Lenape and Cherokee high schools, continued its season-long streak of impressing judges off the field with its community service, outreach events and positive attitude.
BCIT students ill from pepper spray canister
On May 16, the Medford Township Police School Resource Officer was notified by school officials at the Burlington County Institute of Technology of an odor in the cafeteria causing students to feel ill effects. Additional Police, Fire and EMS crews were dispatched to the school. It was quickly determined that a student discharged a small pepper spray canister in the lunch room.
A total of 34 students were evaluated by EMS officials on scene for a variety of minor injuries ranging from teary eyes to coughing and vomiting. A total of 26 students were transported to the hospital for evaluation. 25 students were taken to Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly and one student was taken to Virtua Hospital in Voorhees. Seven of the students were taken by ambulance and 19 students were taken by bus with EMS officials on board.
The incident remains under investigation by the Medford Township Police Department in conjunction with the Burlington County Institute of Technology.
Lenape Regional High School District holds Ninth Annual Armed Services Ceremony
Lenape Regional High School District officials continued the annual tradition of honoring senior students entering the military, military academies or college ROTC programs upon graduation.
The May 15 ceremony marked the Ninth Annual Armed Services Awards Ceremony, in which staff, family, friends and active service members and veterans came together to wish the students well and to provide them with advice in their future endeavors.
Students honored at this year’s Armed Services Awards Ceremony are as follows:
- Lenape High School students Arielle Beauchemin, Aaron Diefenbach, Grant DiDomenico, Ronald Hicks, Kevin Lauer and Jake Steffa.
- Cherokee High School students Andre Flamini, Ethan Lacy, Joseph Mikusa, Liana Pacheco, Amanda Riley and Paige Roberts.
- Shawnee High School students Christian Iannuzzelli and Matthew Ross.
- Seneca High School students Alexa Adams and Shane Brennan.
Alumni, parent and employee honorees were Kelly Bulger, Michael Deehr, Alecia Dunmire, Harry Dunmire, Frank Fatale, Bernard “Skip” Gmitter, Joseph Halber, Kristi Kennedy, Alexander Litwornia, Sue Ann Miller, Robert Reigada, David Schill, Ramilia Scott, James Snyder, Sr., John Snyder and Anthony Zissimos.
