Cohen, who served on the board for two decades, is moving out of town, according to the superintendent
Cinnaminson Board of Education President Jean M. Cohen resigned May 8 after serving on the board for 20 years.
Her resignation came during the board’s meeting and was effective immediately. Superintendent Stephen Cappello said Cohen is moving out of Cinnaminson before the board’s June meeting.
“Her resignation is effective immediately because tonight is the last meeting before she moves from town,” Cappello said in an interview before the meeting.
Board members are required to live in the district.
The Board of Education will nominate another member to serve as the president, and the district has posted a notice on its website advertising the vacancy.
Cappello said the board will interview candidates and pick someone to fill Cohen’s spot through December.
An election for the position will be held in November, and the winner will serve for one year starting in January to complete Cohen’s unexpired term, according to Cappello.
Those interested in serving on the board until December must submit a letter of interest and resume by Friday, May 18. For more information on the application process, visit the school district’s website https://www.cinnaminson.com.
The Board of Education is planning to hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, to conduct interviews for the vacancy.
