On Friday, April 20 members of the Shawnee senior class took part in Senior Day of Service. Shawnee High School has an honored tradition of volunteer service. The students consistently make a commitment to helping others, bringing them closer together as families, neighbors and as companions within our high school community. It is their mission to promote service and citizenship, and to instill in all students a lifelong civic responsibility and passion to serve their communities.
Every year, Shawnee High School participates in Senior Day of Service and sends its senior students into our neighborhood and surrounding communities to exercise their desire and ability to volunteer and serve others. This year, approximately 370 students helped organizations and establishments such as Alliance for a Living Ocean, Allen School, Camp Matollionequay, Cathedral in the Woods, Chairville School, Cranberry Elementary School, Habitat for Humanity, Haines Sixth Grade Center, Kirby’s Mill School, Medford Memorial Middle School, Sacred Heart School, Small World Pre-School, South Jersey Food Bank and Taunton Forge School.
The students performed beautification tasks around the areas including cleaning, raking and painting. At the South Jersey Food Bank, the volunteers prepared 938 boxes that would be filled with groceries and sent out to senior citizens living in low-income public housing. Among the sending schools, the Shawnee seniors enjoyed playing with, reading to and eating with the elementary students.
