Senior Expo coming to Burlington Township on Thursday

More than 48 agencies and organizations are participating in the event, which allows seniors to learn about available services

A press release from the Burlington County Board of Freeholders:

The Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Sheriff’s Department have again decided have partnered again to host the county’s 19th Annual Senior Expo on Thursday, May 10. The event will once again be held at the Masonic Village in Burlington Township from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will bring together more than four dozen agencies and organizations in one convenient location.

“I am thrilled to partner with Sheriff Stanfield and offer this annual event for seniors to learn how the county can help improve their quality of life,” said Deputy Director Hughes, liaison to the county’s Department of Human Services. “The Freeholder Board takes great pride in making Burlington County an affordable place to live through our tradition of fiscal responsibility; however, we know that isn’t enough for our seniors. We also need to have resources and services available to them, and that’s what we’ve done.”

Seniors will have an opportunity to learn about an array of free services offered by the county, including senior legal assistance, congregate nutrition sites, veterans services, free pet adoptions at the Burlington County Animal Shelter, home security program, senior citizen police academy, free 911 cell phones, and one of the county’s most popular programs, Meals on Wheels. The Meals on Wheels program delivers meals five days a week to home-bound senior residents. In 2017, more than 109,000 meals were delivered through the program.

“The Senior Expo is such an excellent opportunity for us to educate seniors about all the services they may be unaware of, including the programs provided by the Sheriff’s Department,” added Sheriff Stanfield. “Making our communities safe is important for all residents, but particularly for seniors who are among our most vulnerable. I look forward to making ties with even more residents this year and discussing how we can make them and their homes safe and secure.”

While in attendance, seniors can have lunch, participate in raffles to win door prizes, and receive free medical screenings. Tote bags will be given to the first 500 attendees, and there will be a shredding truck onsite for seniors looking to dispose of any confidential documents. The Masonic Village at Burlington will be providing tours of their community upon request.

The Masonic Village at Burlington is located at 1114 Oxmead Road in Burlington Township. For more information, seniors may contact the Sheriff’s Department at (609) 265–3788.
