Open enrollment underway for police academy

Those interested in enrolling for the six week program can register at the municipal building, located at 523 Egg Harbor Road.

Enrollment is underway for the Washington Township Police’s Citizen’s Police Academy. Up until May 25, interested applicants can register through the Washington Township Parks and Recreation office at the municipal building, located at 523 Egg Harbor Road in Sewell.

The six week class will run from June 5 to July 17, with classes every Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The course will be an overview of police operations, daily activities, the Investigative Bureau, crime scene processing academy training, physical fitness, K-9 units, bike patrols, emergency vehicle operations, SWAT, specialized units, CPR training, EMS services and more.

Classes will be held at different locations, with optional physical fitness and military drill components.

The fee to sign up is $35, including a t-shirt, and anyone over the age of 18 can enroll. Space is limited to 30 seats.
