Gloucester County Veterans honored with federal medals

Veterans from both Mantua and Mullica Hill honored

Release issued by Gloucester County:

On Wednesday, April 11, the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored 31 veterans — six of them posthumously — with federal medals that they had earned during their time in service but had not received.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “These military veterans deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. We are honored to have had a part in helping them get the medals and honors that they have earned.”

Freeholder Deputy Director Giuseppe (Joe) Chila, liaison to Veterans Affairs said, “Our Office of Veterans Affairs was able to assist in getting this group of veterans 151 medals, forty-four ribbons, thirty-six badges and twelve buttons. We are grateful for the chance to express our deepest thanks and appreciation at this ceremony to these veterans who risked their lives to serve our country.”

The local veterans honored include:

Ralph A. Herman — US Army — Sewell

Steven A. Niedbalski — US Army — Mantua

Francis H. Swope Jr. — US Army — Mullica Hill
