Washington Township’s Battle of the Badges Red Cross Blood Drive

As I shared in last week’s Mayor’s Message, Washington Township is hosting the first “Battle of the Badges” Red Cross blood drive in Gloucester County, on Tuesday, May 1, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Washington Township Municipal Building. If you are eligible to donate blood, we ask that you please sign up to donate at www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code “Washington Township BOB.” To find out if you are eligible, you may visit the Red Cross website, or call 1 (866) 236–3276. This particular blood drive includes a friendly competition between the Washington Township police and fire departments. Each blood donor must choose which department they would like their donation to go towards: Team Police or Team Fire. This is a friendly competition, so make sure to keep an eye on the fire department and police department’s social media pages. May the best department win!

Earth Day Events

I am happy to announce some events that the Environmental Commission is hosting in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day. The first event is a Rain Barrel Workshop that will take place at the Washington Township Senior Center on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. until noon. Rain barrels are used to help you conserve water and essentially save you money. They are environmentally friendly and also help to keep your garden green. If you would like to make a rain barrel, you must register for this event as space is limited. Please call Megan Tahan at (856) 589–0520 x287. The $20 fee for this event will be collected at the workshop. Another fun event hosted by the environmental commission is the “Tote Bag Painting,” in which you will paint a design on a reusable canvas tote bag. All of the materials will be provided, including totes, sponges and non-toxic paints. All ages are welcome, but children 8 and younger should be accompanied by an adult. There is no fee, but registration is required at (856) 589–0520, ext. 287.

Senior Center Garage Sale

I would like to share another event that is coming up which includes the members of the Washington Township senior center. They will be hosting an indoor garage sale at the senior center on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be over 25 tables of items for residents to browse and purchase. The address is 315 Greentree Road, Sewell, NJ. There will be more information to follow within the next few weeks. I hope to see you all there!

Joann Gattinelli is the Mayor of Washington Township. She can be reached at [email protected].
