Rowan College at Burlington County presents this year’s musical “The Rocky Horror Show”

The musical will be presented on April 20, 21, 27 and 28 at BCIT’s Medford campus.

Every year, Rowan College at Burlington County puts together a musical production for the entire community to enjoy. This year’s musical is “The Rocky Horror Show,” and it will be performed on April 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and April 21 at 2 p.m. at Burlington County Institute of Technology’s Medford campus, located at 10 Hawkin Road.

“The Rocky Horror Show” is a musical stage production first performed in 1973, with the music, lyrics and book written by Richard O’Brien. Shortly after, in 1975, a film based on the musical, called “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” was released. Years later, it is still an incredibly successful musical production, and the students of RCBC are eager to take their talents to the stage.

The show pays tribute to “B” science fiction and horror genres, and is based around a recently engaged couple, Brad Majors and Janet Weiss. They are traveling to visit a former professor, and while on the way, they face some complications. Naive and desperately seeking help, they stumble upon the castle of Dr. Frank ’N’ Furter, otherwise noted as an alien, transvestite scientist, and his house of strange Transylvanians. Brad and Janet are immediately swept up into his latest experiment and the night is full of surprises.

Patricia Cohill has been directing musicals at RCBC for 15 years, and as a Medford resident is excited to showcase the production at BCIT’s Medford campus for the first time.

“The students work so hard, they’re thinking and questioning and processing everything quickly.” Cohill said. “Part of the beauty of the show is the overriding theme of acceptance of people that are different from you.”

Cohill has been working side-by-side with choreographer Shawn Doyle and music director Russell Gartner throughout the course of the production. Planning for the show began more than a year ago, and rehearsals began in January taking place at the Mt. Laurel RCBC campus.

General admission for the show is $15. Tickets for RCBC students with a valid student ID are $10.

Tickets can be purchased online at http://rcbcshowtix.booktix.com. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

For group sales, please contact Cohill at [email protected].

An American Sign Language interpreter will be available at the Friday, April 20 performance.
