Four Evesham students take the district’s reins during annual ‘Superintendent for a Day’ event
Four students got a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the Evesham Township School District this week during the district’s annual “Superintendent for a Day” event. Eighth-grade house presidents at DeMasi and Marlton middle schools spent a half-day shadowing Superintendent John Scavelli Jr. as he traveled to schools in the district and held meetings with administrative officials.
Brian Glatz named next head coach for the Cherokee High School Football program
Cherokee High School has announced that Brian Glatz has been named as the next head coach for the Cherokee High School Football program. District officials describe Glatz as outstanding student athlete, excelling in both football and wrestling prior to graduating from Cherokee in 1986. Glatz returned to Cherokee in 1995, and served as an offensive line coach under then head coach John Scott and continued his line coach duties in addition to becoming the offensive run play coordinator under coach PJ Mehigan from 2002 through 2018.
Sicklerville drug dealer pleads guilty to homicide in drug overdose death of Marlton man in 2015

Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Sicklerville drug dealer pleaded guilty to homicide in Superior Court this week for causing the death of a customer who bought heroin from him in November 2015 that was laced with fentanyl. According to officials, Leonard Hicks, 37, admitted before the Hon. Terrence R. Cook that he sold heroin to a 26-year-old victim, who was discovered dead inside his apartment by Evesham Township police officers responding to a call from a friend to conduct a wellness check on Nov. 29, 2015.
Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office launches ‘Straight to Treatment’ program
The Evesham Township Police Department will serve as the first location in the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office’s new Straight to Treatment program, which allows Burlington County residents battling drug addiction to turn in their drugs and seek treatment without the fear of being arrested. The program seeks to connect drug addicts with a drug and alcohol counselor from Oaks Integrated Care of Mt. Holly, which offers treatment for substance abuse and will use its network of organizations to get addiction treatment for those who come forward.
Evesham Township Police Department hosting fourth annual Junior Police Academy day camp
The Evesham Township Police Department is hosting its fourth annual Junior Police Academy day camp this July. According to police officials, the purpose of the Junior Police Academy is to provide young citizens with an introduction to law enforcement. The department will have two separate academy weeks. The first week will be held July 16 to July 20, and the second week will be held July 23 to July 27. Completed applications must be turned into the police department in person by the deadline of June 1.
Lenape Regional High School District BOE approves tentative 2018–2019 school year budget
The Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education approved its tentative 2018–2019 school year budget at this week’s BOE meeting. Appropriations for the budget total $162.6 million, which is a 2.19 percent increase from the current year’s budget. According to the district, the budget’s general fund tax levy will increase 2.97 percent to $115,467,007, and the budget’s debt service tax levy will decrease $114,039 to $6,453,913. For Evesham Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $270,500 will see a tax levy increase of $33.41.
