Evesham Police encourage residents to use online system to report storm-related property damage

Police say using the department’s online reporting system will help keep more officers available for emergency calls.

The Evesham Township Police Department is encouraging residents to report storm-related property damage using the department’s online reporting system.

According to the department, police officials anticipate officers handling an extremely high volume of service calls throughout the storm.

As such, police say the ETPD online reporting system not only provides a convenient method to report non-emergency situations that do not require the presence of an officer, it greatly increases the department’s ability to quickly responded to those in need of immediate help.

Property damage that requires a report for an insurance claim, such as For flood damage, storm damage or damage caused by falling trees, may be filled online.

For those experiencing emergencies, resident are advised to call 911.

To use the department’s online reporting system, visit www.eveshampd.org and click the “Citizen Online Reporting” tab.

Police have also released the following tips to help residents be prepared for storms:

  • Keep an emergency kit and supplies in one’s home, office and car, including blankets, extra sweaters or sweatshirts, and mittens or gloves.
  • Have vehicles tuned up for driving. This includes checking fluid levels and making sure that the tires on a vehicle have good treads. Resident are advised to replace old, worn tires.
  • Keep a shovel and salt handy for clearing sidewalks and driveways.
  • Monitor local weather reports.
  • Charge any mobile phones before a storm in case of a power outage.

During storms, police advise the following steps:

  • Drive only if absolutely necessary. Let someone know one’s destination, try not to travel alone and avoid back road shortcuts. Public transit is also an alternative.
  • Park in one’s driveway, not in the street. This allows snow plows and salt spreaders room to safely clear the street. Also, local parking bans may be in effect. Illegally parked cars may be ticketed and/or towed.
  • If the event is a snow storm, clear any snow away from fire hydrants. This makes it easier for the fire department if there is an emergency.
  • Stay away from rivers and creeks. Heavy rainfall and melting snow causes elevated water levels, swift-moving currents and bank erosion.
  • Remember to check on neighbors and family members who may need assistance, particularly if they are elderly.
