Guests also spoke to students about the importance of reading, in lieu of Read Across America.
On Dr. Seuss’s birthday this past Friday, March 2, staff and students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary celebrated Read Across America’s Seuss-induced spirit by hosting an exciting group of guest readers from the Washington Township community and school district. The program was organized by Thomas Jefferson reading teacher Sheri Biesiada.
The visitors included Superintendent of schools Joe Bollendorf, Assistant Superintendent Annette Miller, Washington Township Police Chief Pat Gurcsik, Washington Township Fire Prevention Coordinator Dan Pacewicz, Board of Education President Ginny Murphy, Vice President Bob Abbott and member Candice Zachowski, retired Director of Elementary Education Bobbi Marciano and Orchard Valley Middle School principal Steve Buono, and Washington Township High School Principal Ann Moore, among others.
All the guests read different books — many of them written by Dr. Seuss — to their assigned classrooms.
When they were finished reading the book, the honored guests answered questions the students had, and spoke about how important reading is at every stage of a person’s life.
